“On the Journey”

Matt. 25:31-46; Luke 21:1-4

Yesterday was the last Sunday in Ordinary time, Christ the King, and for me it is the anniversary of my last Sunday as a minister in a mainline denomination and in the pulpit being in the closet. It is a day of sad rememjberance, but of joy as well, for from that day when all burned around me I experienced the resurrection. By letting go of the security and living a life of insecurity I have found so much joy. And today the Scripture is the one in which the woman who has so little gives all she has–“All of them are giving out of their spare change. But she from her hopeless poverty has given everything she had to live on.”  She is my example–I give all I have, and I think of those who support me who like her give from so little. I think of a 92 year old woman in Hawaii who sends me ten dollars a month, like clock work.  As we begin Advent next week I give thanks for this life, and for the joy of ministry.
